THE SHORT ANSWER

What is Housing Deposits?

Housing Deposits are a CalAIM Community Support that can cover specific, health-plan-authorized expenses needed to establish a basic household. Anchor coordinates documentation, landlord or vendor information, and the approved payment process so an otherwise ready housing placement is not lost to an eligible move-in cost.

Who may be a good fit?

This service may fit an eligible member who has identified housing or is close to lease-up but cannot cover approved one-time setup costs. It is commonly coordinated with Housing Transition Navigation and followed by Housing Tenancy and Sustaining Services.

Questions about Housing Deposits

What can Housing Deposits pay for?

Depending on current DHCS rules and the member’s plan authorization, the service may cover eligible one-time costs such as a security deposit, utility deposits or setup fees, and approved health- and safety-related household items.

Does Housing Deposits pay monthly rent?

No. Housing Deposits is not an ongoing rent benefit, and current DHCS guidance excludes first and last month’s rent. Transitional Rent is a separate benefit with separate eligibility rules.

Does the member receive cash directly?

Payments and documentation are coordinated according to the health plan’s requirements. Members should not assume reimbursement or direct cash payment without advance authorization.

When should a referral be submitted?

Refer as early as possible once a housing opportunity or likely move-in date is known. Include the lease-up timeline, requested costs, supporting documents, and landlord or vendor information when available.

Program descriptions reflect current California DHCS guidance and Anchor’s contracted network. Health-plan policies and authorizations control member-specific access. Review DHCS ECM and Community Supports resources.
